Who We Are
The Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, Inc. for PSA I is a private non-profit corporation funded by the Federal Older Americans Act and State General Revenue through the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA), serving senior residents 60 years old and older of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Walton and Okaloosa Counties. The Aging Resource Center (ARC) is administered by the Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, Inc. (NWFLAAA).
What we do?
The Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging/Aging Resource Center for PSA I is not a direct provider of health or social services but rather the overall agency for elders, which collaborates with community-based service providers in the 4 county areas for those residents who are 60 years old and older in the planning, coordination, development and evaluation of programs and services currently available. In addition, through the Elder Helpline’s “one-stop shop”, information and referral service network, the ARC: (1) Determines eligibility for Federal and state funded services, (clients must be 60 years old or older, frail, low income and minority to be considered for these limited services); (2) Initiates appropriate referrals for available services; (3) Tracks clients through a centralized data management bank; (4) Evaluates effectiveness, timeliness and availability of services requested and provided; (5) Provides health prevention and education in conjunction with the Agency for Health Education Council (AHEC).
Who is Eligible for Service?
All elders 60 years old and older, their families and community service agencies have access to the information and referral network. The Information and Referral Elder Hot Line staff will forward the information and service request to the appropriate health or social service agency. The community-based service agency will then make necessary calls and arrangements with each client entered into the system. There may be times when waiting lists exist, but priority of need will predicate timeliness of availability of services. Certain service projects may require a medical diagnosis or willingness to self-pay.
