ADI
Alzheimer's Disease Initiative
The Alzheimer's Disease Initiative (ADI) program is focused on caring for persons 18+ with memory
disorder.
The legislature established Memory Disorder Clinics throughout the state to:
•provide diagnostic and referral services for persons with Alzheimer's disease
•conduct service-related research
•develop training materials for laypersons and professional caregivers
A Brain Bank is funded for post mortem research purposes. PSA 1 is very fortunate to have a Memory
Disorder Clinic and Brain Bank located at West Florida Senior Health Services in Pensacola.
Model day care programs (participation can be funded by the ADI Program) provide a safe environment
where participants congregate for the day and socialize with other participants. Programs are required
to develop and provide therapeutic interventions designed to optimize patients' cognitive functioning.
At present, each county in PSA 1 has one adult day care/Alzheimer's center in operation.
Respite care is provided throughout the state. Much of this care is provided in the home, but can
also be facility based.
